The Ziegen calf that the Sharp Claw wolves had killed was just a few feet away from where Kuvageegai was. But he wasn’t paying much attention to it. His eyes were fixed on the pack members glaring directly at him. Ochre, Leaf, and Aspen had their teeth bared.
With a soft whine, the goldenrod Iphio tried to placate them as he bellied towards them, his ears back and his tail between his legs. Thorn stomped closer to him and growled one word: “No.” “B-B-But…why?” the yearling whimpered. “I…I’m hungry…” “You didn’t participate in the hunt, omega,” the seal brown wolf snarled. “That’s right,” Brushfire agreed, her head lowering towards the calf. “In our pack, those who didn’t help hunt don’t eat at all.” “I…I did help!” Kuvageegai protested. “But…but you wouldn’t—” “Back off, now.” Thorn sounded as if he wanted to kill the Iphio. With a defeated sigh, Kuvageegai moved back towards the grass and looked on as the wolves indulged themselves with delicious Ziegen meat. Like Aspen said, Kuvageegai did not eat that night.
